Mj Rodriguez Reacts To Historic Emmy Nomination For ‘Pose’: “I Finally Feel Seen”
DEADLINE – Mj Rodriguez made history on Tuesday, becoming the first transgender performer to be nominated in a major category for her portrayal of nurse Blanca Rodriguez-Evangelista in FX’s highly lauded Pose. Through tears, Rodriguez talks of the impact of the accolade with Deadline.
“I’m feeling so many emotions. I’m feeling joy, and I’m feeling accomplished. I finally feel seen,” the Afro-Latinx star said during a phone call from France. “My uncle passed away, and I feel like I am celebrating him because I feel like he had his hands on me and the cast of Pose. I’m a girl hailing from Northern New Jersey who had dreams and aspirations like Whitney Houston, child. I never thought this could happen for me. I told myself no matter what happens, I’m going to keep going and never stop.”
She continued: “I’m grateful that people can really see my human existence and they can see what I have to offer the world through art. I love what I do and that I represent every intersectionality of my being a trans artist who identifies as a woman and being Black and Latina. That goes to show what the human condition can do and what having fight looks like. A piece of that fight has been won finally for a whole new generation who are of many colors and from different walks of life. I hope through my win they see that they can do it too.”

Mj Rodriguez on the End of Pose and the Start of Something New
INSTYLE – The Pose star on Emmys snubs, a movie career, and Blanca Evangelista’s curtain call.
Back in 2018, three weeks into filming for the first season of FX’s groundbreaking ballroom series Pose, star Mj Rodriguez had an epiphany. “I started realizing how the show was not only about entertainment,” she recalls. “It was also extremely educational about our lives [as trans people] and how we chose to move through the world.”
After years spent navigating Hollywood as a trans woman, Rodriguez was shocked to finally land on a script that clearly understood not only how the world perceived members of her community, but the resiliency that allowed these women to continually fight to carve a space for themselves. “That was just so crazy at the time,” she adds.

‘Pose’ Star Mj Rodriguez Joins Maya Rudolph in Apple Comedy Series
DEADLINE – Michaela Jaé “Mj” Rodriguez will star opposite Maya Rudolph in an upcoming Apple comedy series that hails from Alan Yang and Matt Hubbard, Variety has learned.
The series was ordered at Apple in March. It follows Molly (Rudolph), a woman whose seemingly perfect life is upended after her husband leaves her with nothing but 87 billion dollars. Rodriguez will play Sofia, the hard-working executive director of the non-profit funded by her absentee billionaire boss, Molly.
Rodriguez is best known for her role as Blanca in the Emmy-winning FX drama series “Pose,” which recently debuted its third and final season. Her other TV credits include “Nurse Jackie” and “Luke Cage,” while she has also starred in films such as “Adam” and “Saturday Church.” She recently starred as Audrey in the Pasadena Playhouse’s production of “Little Shop of Horrors.”
She is repped by Gersh, Untitled Entertainment and Del Shaw Moonves.
Yang and Hubbard created the Apple series, which has the working title “Loot,” and will serve as executive producers. Rudolph will executive produce in addition to starring under her Animal Pictures banner. Natasha Lyonne and Danielle Renfrew Behrens of Animal Pictures will also executive produce, as will Dave Becky of 3 Arts. Universal Television is the studio. Both Yang and Hubbard are under overall deals at UTV.
Rudolph is one of the most well-regarded comedy actresses working today. An “SNL” alum, she recently made her return to the show to play Vice President Kamala Harris. She picked up two Emmy Awards in 2020 — one for “SNL” and another for her work on the Netflix animated series “Big Mouth.” She is also known for her roles on shows like “The Good Place” and films like “Away We Go” and “Bridesmaids.”
